  • 4 slices sourdough bread preferably day-old
  • 3 large eggs
  • 0.5 cup milk any type
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp sugar optional
  • salt a pinch
  • butter or oil for frying

Instructions
 

  • Slice sourdough bread into 1-inch thick slices. Use day-old or slightly toasted bread for best results.
  • In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, sugar, and a pinch of salt until smooth.
  • Dip each slice into the custard mixture for 15–20 seconds per side.
  • Heat butter or oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook each slice for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  • Serve with toppings like maple syrup, fruit, whipped cream, or a savory twist with herbs and eggs.

Notes

Use stale sourdough for best texture. Customize with citrus zest, spices, or savory ingredients. Keep warm in oven if making in batches. Perfect for brunch or a cozy weekend breakfast.
