Equipment

  • Baking Sheet
  • Wire Rack
  • Saucepan

Ingredients

Chicken Wings

  • 2 lbs chicken wings drumettes and flats
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp baking powder for crispy skin

Sweet and Sour Sauce

  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup vinegar white or rice vinegar
  • 1/4 cup sugar or honey for a milder sweetness
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water for thickening

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Arrange a wire rack over a baking sheet.
  • Pat the chicken wings dry. Season with salt and pepper, then toss them in baking powder to achieve a crispy texture.
  • Arrange the wings on the wire rack. Bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through for even crispiness.
  • While the wings bake, make the sweet and sour sauce: Combine ketchup, vinegar, sugar, and soy sauce in a saucepan. Stir well and heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
  • Mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry. Gradually add this to the sauce while stirring. Cook until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency, then remove from heat.
  • Toss the baked wings in the sweet and sour sauce until evenly coated.
  • Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

For an extra sticky glaze, return the wings to the oven for 2-3 minutes after coating in the sauce. Adjust sweetness or tanginess by tweaking the sugar and vinegar amounts.
